Instagram's New Reorder Grid Feature: What Musicians Should Pin Instead
By Finch Bergling · Jun 9, 2026 · 📱 Content & Social
In June 2026, Adam Mosseri (the head of Instagram) announced a feature I'd been waiting for for over 10 years. No kidding.
You can now rearrange the posts on your profile grid.
Three years ago I would have gone crazy about this. Today, I don't feel that way anymore. So before I show you how to use it, let me explain why I don't think it matters much for your music.
What people see when they open your profile
The first thing is your follower count. The second thing is your bio. After that come your pinned posts, and only then the rest of your posts.
Unless you're a photographer or a designer, your aesthetic isn't the thing that makes someone follow you. So moving your posts around won't change much.
People follow you because of your content and your bio. And of course, because of good music to start with.
Once they follow you, they see your posts in their feed anyway, and not lined up neatly on your profile.
There's also something bigger going on. People want authenticity. A super polished feed kind of says "I care a lot about how I'm seen" or "I want to impress you", and that's the opposite of authentic.
What to do with an older post you want people to see
You have two simple options. You can pin it, or you can post it again.
And yes, posting it again works. The people who saw it the first time have probably forgotten about it, and a lot of your followers, new and old, never saw it once.
How to rearrange your grid
Maybe the way your feed looks does matter to you, or you're a designer. In that case, here's how to do it:
- Open your profile on your phone.
- Long press on a post and tap "Reorder grid".
- Move your posts around however you like.
The part that matters more: your pinned posts
You can pin 3 posts at the top of your profile, and these are the ones people see right after your bio. Here are a few ideas for what to pin:
- An introduction video or carousel.
- Your most viral post so far.
- A carousel or video from one of your shows.
- A social proof carousel with the playlists, press and features you've landed.
Pick the 3 that show a new visitor who you are and why your music is worth following.
And if you want a second opinion on a video before you post it or pin it, Content Buddy is a free tool I built that gives you quick feedback on your hook. For more on how the app decides who sees your posts, here are 5 little-known Instagram algorithm facts.
A content idea to try: "proof you have rare taste in music"
One viral hook I love is "This is proof you have rare taste in music, because you just found ____." You complete it with something specific about you and your music, then put it over a video of you performing a song or some b-roll footage.
You'll find it, and hundreds more ideas with examples, in The Content Vault.
